Following 5 strategic milestones
Congenital Chagas
Eradicate mother-to-child transmission of Chagas by 2030
At Mundo Sano, we have been combating Chagas disease for over three decades with a comprehensive approach that includes vector control strategies as well as effective diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Our current focus aims to align all programs and projects dedicated to Chagas to globally eliminate its mother-to-child transmission and integrate disease management within public healthcare systems.
Innovation
Developing, implementing and transferring cutting-edge tools to address health issues affecting underserved populations.
Our conn with the pharmaceutical industry provides a unique and integrative perspective on the challenges of drug development and the needs of underserved populations. These efforts, coupled with the development of new diagnostic tools, innovative design of intervention strategies, and enhanced impact measurement, strengthen our commitment to creating and applying effective solutions for the global approach to neglected healthcare.
Data science
Optimising modelling, analysis, and data communication
Through expertise in spatial geomatics, we have developed risk maps and predictive models on the dynamics of vector-borne diseases such as Dengue, Chagas, and geohelminthiasis. In the coming years, we aim to replicate these models for other diseases and leverage advances in artificial intelligence and Big Data to transform this information into actionable models. Additionally, we will integrate clinical and epidemiological variables to enhance the accuracy of our approaches and standardize data collection methodologies across all our projects.
Sociocultural perspective
Systematically and methodologically promoting interaction with social sciences
At Mundo Sano, we believe that a truly comprehensive approach involves incorporating the cultural perspective of the communities we work with. Therefore, our interventions consider the specificities of each area and include participatory and interdisciplinary methodologies with various stakeholder groups. We aim to establish clear parameters for replicable interventions using this approach and generate evidence on the impact of undertaking such methodologies.
Education and dissemination
Enhancing knowledge on neglected diseases
In recent years, we have identified the lack of access to updated knowledge on neglected diseases as a significant barrier to their diagnosis and treatment. To address this issue, we have developed training courses in collaboration with various academic partners, aimed at healthcare professionals and underserved communities alike. Additionally, our projects include publication in scientific journals, thereby contributing to knowledge generation that supports public policies and academic discourse promoting scientific collaboration.
